Is Nuxe cruelty free? Are Nuxe products tested on animals?
Nuxe is NOT cruelty free.
In order to be cruelty free, brands:
- Must not test their finished products or ingredients on animals
- Must make sure that their suppliers don’t test on animals
- Must not commission third parties to test their products on animals
- Must not sell their products in stores in mainland China, or other countries where animal testing is still required by law

Laboratoire NUXE does not test neither its products nor the ingredients in its products on animals, thus complying with European regulations. The finished products are evaluated by independent test laboratories, through alternative methods and/or clinical trials on volunteers.
In China, the authorities require that the products be made available for testing in state-approved laboratories, according to the local safety regulations.
So, Nuxe admits that their products are tested on animals where required by law – in mainland China.
Currently, all brands that sell their products in stores in mainland China have to agree to have their products tested on animals, so they can’t be cruelty free.
Therefore, Nuxe is not cruelty free.

Is Nuxe sold in China?
Nuxe is sold in mainland China where animal testing is still required by law.
Why can’t cruelty free brands sell in mainland China?
Animal testing is still happening for products sold in physical stores in mainland China.
Pre-market animal testing is required for all special-use imported products, and non-routine post-market testing on animals may also be done in cases of customer complaints.
However, please keep in mind that this doesn’t apply to products sold in stores at the airports, or in Hong Kong.
Also, products can be sold online and shipped to mainland China without being tested on animals.
Is Nuxe owned by a parent brand? If yes, is it cruelty free?
Nuxe is not owned by a parent company.
However, please note that Sofina (a Belgian holding company) is a minority shareholder and owns 45.1% of Nuxe.
Sofina is a shareholder in a large number of sectors, including healthcare, telecommunication, banks, insurance, education, consumer & retail, as well as in private equity and venture capital firms that also own shares in thousands of brands and companies.
Therefore, it’s hard to say whether Sofina is cruelty free.
Is Nuxe vegan?
Nuxe is not 100% vegan, because some of their products contain animal-derived ingredients or animal by-products.
100% of NUXE products are vegetarian and 90% are also vegan. Only the Rêve de Miel® range contains beehive products (honey, wax, etc.).

Additionally, please note that since Nuxe products may be tested on animals in China and are therefore not cruelty free, I wouldn’t consider them vegan-friendly.
