NYX is 100% cruelty free. Their ingredients and finished products are never tested on animals.
Although NYX offers a lot of vegan-friendly products, some of them do contain animal-derived ingredients, so NYX is not considered a 100% vegan brand.
Keep on reading if you want to learn everything that you need to know about this popular ethical brand!
You’ll find some of my favorite NYX products at the end of this post.
Let’s dive right in!
Is NYX cruelty free? Are NYX products tested on animals?
NYX doesn’t test on animals and is 100% cruelty free.
- NYX finished products aren’t tested on animals by anyone, anywhere in the world
- The ingredients used in their products are never tested on animals by anyone, anywhere in the world
- Third parties never test NYX products on animals
- NYX is not sold in mainland China, or in any country where animal testing is still required by law
NYX is certified as cruelty free by PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies program.
And they’ve proudly taken a stand against animal testing:
We believe animals belong in our arms – not in a lab. All of our makeup is certified & acknowledged by PETA as a cruelty-free brand. We don’t test any of our products on animals.
If you’re confused by the different certifications and want to know the differences between them, check out my post Cruelty Free Certifications Explained: Who Can You Trust?.

Is NYX sold in China?
No, NYX products are NOT sold in physical stores in mainland China.
Why can’t cruelty free brands sell in mainland China?
Animal testing is still happening for products sold in physical stores in mainland China.
Pre-market animal testing is required for all special-use imported products, and non-routine post-market testing on animals may also be done in cases of customer complaints.
However, please keep in mind that this doesn’t apply to products sold in stores at the airports, or in Hong Kong.
Also, products can be sold online and shipped to mainland China without being tested on animals.
Is NYX owned by a parent brand? If yes, is it cruelty free?
NYX is owned by L’Oréal, a brand that is not cruelty free.
If you want to learn more about the animal testing policy of this parent company, check out my dedicated post on L’Oréal’s cruelty free status.
However, I must note that NYX has their own animal testing policy, independent of their parent company.
NYX was acquired by L’Oréal back in 2015, and PETA immediately confirmed that the cruelty free status of NYX hasn’t been affected.
Is NYX vegan?
NYX is not 100% vegan.
However, they do have an entire line of products formulated with no animal-derived ingredients!
You can find out which products are formulated with vegan ingredients on the NYX website.
Best NYX products
NYX is a popular makeup brand that sells everything makeup-related, from eye and lip makeup, to brushes and other tools!
They have some really high-quality and awesome products, but their price-points are pretty affordable. And given the fact that they’re also cruelty free, I’d say they’re definitely underrated.
You should definitely try some of their vegan best-sellers. You can start with the Lip Lingerie Matte Liquid Lipsticks (all shades of the Lip Lingerie are 100% vegan!).
You can find NYX products on Amazon.
