Eucerin is not cruelty free because their products are tested on animals where required by law (in mainland China).
Additionally, Eucerin is not 100% vegan as a brand. This means that some of their products contain animal-derived ingredients or animal by-products.

Let’s dive right in!
Is Eucerin cruelty free? Are Eucerin products tested on animals?
Eucerin is NOT cruelty free.
In order to be cruelty free, brands:
- Must not test their finished products or ingredients on animals
- Must make sure that their suppliers don’t test on animals
- Must not commission third parties to test their products on animals
- Must not sell their products in stores in mainland China, or other countries where animal testing is still required by law
Let’s take a look at Eucerin’s official animal testing policy (I’ve highlighted the important part):
Animals are very dear to us for the Eucerin brand, and we are therefore convinced that animal testing is not necessary for cosmetics, which has moreover been banned in the EU since 2004! Eucerin is thus making a determined effort to make animal testing obsolete worldwide. Consequently, we do not carry out or commission animal testing for cosmetic products and their ingredients.

Only exception: If national laws force Beiersdorf to do so, Beiersdorf must comply with them and, in exceptional cases, perform tests. For example, in the sale of other Beiersdorf cosmetics in China. Animal testing to officially demonstrate the efficacy is legally required there. Our explicit goal here is to convince the Chinese authorities that animal testing is not necessary for cosmetic products. This is why Eucerin continues to work resolutely for the international acceptance of alternative testing methods.
In the highlighted point, Eucerin admits that their products are sold in mainland China, where animal testing is still required by law.
Selling in China is in contradiction with one of the requirements for cruelty free brands.
Since Eucerin does sell their products in mainland China, their products may be subjected to animal testing there.
Therefore, Eucerin is not cruelty free.

Is Eucerin sold in China?
Eucerin is sold in mainland China where animal testing is still required by law.
Why can’t cruelty free brands sell in mainland China?
Animal testing is still happening for products sold in physical stores in mainland China.
Pre-market animal testing is required for all special-use imported products, and non-routine post-market testing on animals may also be done in cases of customer complaints.
However, please keep in mind that this doesn’t apply to products sold in stores at the airports, or in Hong Kong.
Also, products can be sold online and shipped to mainland China without being tested on animals.
Is Eucerin owned by a parent brand? If yes, is it cruelty free?
Eucerin is owned by Beiersdorf, a company that tests on animals.
Animal testing is banned in the European Union and Beiersdorf itself doesn’t test on animals.
However, products manufactured by European companies that are sold in mainland China are still subject to animal testing there, which is why Beiersdorf isn’t cruelty free.
Beiersdorf also owns other popular brands such as Nivea, Labello, Coppertone, La Prairie, and more.
Is Eucerin vegan?
Eucerin is not 100% vegan. Some of their products contain animal-derived ingredients or animal by-products.
Also, please keep in mind that since Eucerin products may be tested on animals in mainland China, I definitely wouldn’t consider them as a vegan-friendly brand.
