Let’s dive right in!

Is OGX cruelty free? Are OGX products tested on animals?

OGX is NOT cruelty free.

In order to be cruelty free, brands:

  • Must not test their finished products or ingredients on animals
  • Must make sure that their suppliers don’t test on animals
  • Must not commission third parties to test their products on animals
  • Must not sell their products in stores in mainland China, or other countries where animal testing is still required by law

Let’s look at OGX’s animal testing policy (I’ve highlighted the important point):

Are OGX® products tested on animals?

At OGX, we care deeply about the integrity of our products and our actions. When it comes to animal wellbeing, we share your concerns, and believe that testing cosmetic and personal care products on animals should be obsolete. That is why we do not test any of our cosmetic or personal care products and ingredients on animals anywhere in the world, except in rare situations where animal testing is required by law or where alternatives to validate safety data do not yet exist.

The world is not yet free from cosmetic animal testing, but we at OGX are proud to be part of the solution. For many years, our parent company has been partnering with top research organizations around the world to develop and promote non-animal alternative testing methods to validate the safety of our cosmetic products. We will continue to do this, since we believe it will ultimately lead to the elimination of animal testing globally.

So, OGX admits that their products or ingredients are tested on animals where required by law or where animal testing alternatives are unavailable.

Therefore, OGX is not cruelty free.

Additionally, OGX is on PETA’s list of companies that test on animals.

Is OGX sold in China?

OGX is sold in mainland China where animal testing is still required by law.

Why can’t cruelty free brands sell in mainland China?

Animal testing is still happening for products sold in physical stores in mainland China.

Pre-market animal testing is required for all special-use imported products, and non-routine post-market testing on animals may also be done in cases of customer complaints.

However, please keep in mind that this doesn’t apply to products sold in stores at the airports, or in Hong Kong.

Also, products can be sold online and shipped to mainland China without being tested on animals.

Is OGX owned by a parent brand? If yes, is it cruelty free?

OGX is owned by Johnson & Johnson, a company that tests on animals.

Is OGX vegan?

OGX is not 100% vegan.

They may have some products that don’t contain any animal-derived ingredients or animal by-products.

However, please note that since OGX products are tested on animals where required by law and are therefore not cruelty free, I wouldn’t consider them vegan-friendly.
